School Summary

The Churchill Road Elementary School staff and community share high expectations for student achievement in all areas. Our commitment is to provide all students, “by name and by need”, with a motivating, rigorous instructional program encouraging a lifelong love of learning. We strive to respect others, appreciate the world around us, and be responsible citizens in our community.

Staff members understand and value the diverse backgrounds and abilities of our students and work collaboratively with their colleagues to develop learning experiences. Students participate in inquiry-based learning experiences, field trips, and assemblies and are introduced to special guest speakers - many of whom are connected to our community.

The school staff themselves are lifelong learners. They serve in numerous school and county committees and organizations. As educators, our staff are committed to their development as professionals; they build upon one another’s strengths as they collaborate with one another. They strive to build relationships and trust with our students and community.  Most importantly, they plan instruction, using data, to ensure all students are provided with the learning opportunities that best meet their individual needs.

Understanding children learn best when they have effective academic and social skills, Churchill Road's staff and administrators are implementing “Responsive Classroom,” an evidence-based approach to building safe, joyful, and engaging classrooms and school communities where all children learn the skills they need to thrive.

To aid and enhance their daily learning and in preparation for life beyond FCPS schools, students are taught to responsibly and effectively use technology in their daily studies.  Every student at Churchill Road is assigned a laptop to ensure easy access for investigation, programming, and word processing.

The Churchill Road community believes that participating in community service helps to instill an understanding in children that they can positively impact the well-being of the world around them. Students have opportunities to take part in community service endeavors throughout the school year. Students look forward to annual fundraising events such as Kid’s Heart Challenge and Rise Against Hunger. The PTA also sponsors events that support food banks as well as our buddy school.

Environmental education is an area in which  Churchill Road Elementary continues to learn and grow. Teachers are working to provide opportunities to apply academic skills to real-life circumstances, use critical thinking skills, and instill important life skills through the development of and use of our outdoor spaces.

Churchill Road's PTA works in partnership with the teachers and school administration to sustain the school's initiatives and is an essential element in the success of our school. The Churchill Road PTA supports the school's efforts to educate children, develop character and nurture a supportive, respectful learning community. The PTA sponsors numerous activities, including family activity events, charitable endeavors, and a wide array of support for the teachers.
