Cub Run Elementary School opened its doors over 30 years ago in September 1986. As a professional learning community, Cub Run provides an inclusive, challenging instructional program to support all students with the core curriculum of Virginia and Fairfax County Public Schools. Cub Run is also a Responsive Classroom school where each teacher uses specific, daily practices to build community and kindness in their classrooms. A cooperative spirit and strong communication between home and school are key factors in creating this positive environment. Students, staff, and parents all work together in ensuring an environment of respect, responsibility, and kindness.
Cub Run students use technology throughout the school day. Critical and creative thinking and problem solving are integral parts of our core curriculum. Cub Run is especially proud of its STEAM program, which allows all students in kindergarten through grade six to work actively and creatively with a variety of media. The staff participates in on-going staff development to share expertise and incorporate research-based instructional practices. We are very proud of our outstanding music, art, chorus, counseling, health and physical education programs as well as an array of culturally rich learning opportunities through field trips, guest presenters, assemblies and special events.
Our supportive PTA makes many of our special events, assemblies and after school programs possible. Our parent and community volunteers support Cub Run on a daily basis in order to provide students with additional support in learning as students' progress on their academic journey.
Cub Run's staff members use many sources of information to assess the ongoing learning of their students. Together, we ensure that all students have the opportunity to strive toward their fullest potential in a stimulating community of learners.
