School Summary

Mosaic Elementary School opened September 3, 1963. The school serves students from the Vienna, Oakton and Fairfax communities.

Mosaic serves a diverse population with students from 40 countries that speak 28 different languages. Our multiculturalism is valued as a source of strength. Students appreciate diverse cultures and celebrate American ideals.

Mosaic has several special features that help provide a high quality education for all students. We focus on helping our students develop the 21st century skills of creativity, critical thinking, communication and collaboration. Mosaic welcomes learners with a variety of learning styles, including students with disabilities, English speakers of other languages and students in the advanced academic program. Character education is exemplified by all through a practice of respect, responsibility, honesty, self-discipline and caring. Staff members lead students to lifelong learning by example because every staff member exhibits a commitment to learning, professional development, and collaboration.

The strong instructional program provides challenge and high expectations for all learners. Students receive arts integrated instruction and are provided various opportunities to display their talents through the visual, performing, and musical arts. Early childhood education practices influence the primary grades, which are child-centered, developmental, and focused on the whole child. Students are encouraged to live the school motto: LEARN, GIVE and THRIVE. Staff development currently focuses on reading comprehension, problem solving in math, and differentiating instruction to accommodate the needs of diverse learners.

All students are provided integrated instruction supported by a variety of resources. Community activities are planned to involve parents, staff members, and students in a cooperative effort to support student success. These include informational curriculum nights, social activities, concerts, student programs and cultural arts events. Mosby Woods Elementary School is a place where the mind and the heart are nurtured to help students become leaders for tomorrow's communities.
