School SummaryJames Madison High School, a staple of the Vienna Community, has served its residents for over 59 years. Madison High School opened in September 1959 and has undergone three major renovations with the last one completed in 2003. For the past ten years Madison's enrollment has increased each year with a projection of 2,230 students in 2018. The Town of Vienna with its small town feel takes pride in the diverse accomplishments of the students and school. The dedicated staff, parents and community provide an exceptional educational experience for our students where the goal and mission of the school is to develop creative and resilient global citizens.
Recognizing that individual development and personal growth occur in the context of community, our school fosters relationships of trust, caring, and mutual respect among students and adults. Our students excel academically on a variety of measures and our sport teams, Fine and Performing Arts and clubs have had great success due to the commitment from our students and staff. Students thrive at Madison HS because they develop strong and positive relationships and work in a supportive social-emotional and academic environment.
To develop creative and resilient global citizens our faculty uses Deeper Learning practices to help students learn and hone the essential skills to achieve the JMHS mission. Deeper Learning is an umbrella term used for the skills and competencies students must have to succeed in the 21st century. A wide range of activities like project based lessons, internships, community lesson designs, and collaborative problem-solving activities, provide students opportunities to develop creative and critical thinking skills while engaging in work that matters to them and to the world outside of school.
