School SummaryBailey's Upper ES opened in August of 2014 at 6245 Leesburg Pike; the building fully renovated from a once commercial office building to a 21st century school to serve students in grades three, four, and five. Bailey's ES is a direct feeder to Bailey's Upper and our state accountability and accreditation are linked. Below are links to videos that chronical the opening of Bailey's Upper Elementary School.
Bailey's Upper Elementary School has an amazing array of programs to meet students' needs and help them thrive. As one of the three elementary magnet schools in our district, we have both classroom teachers and specialized educators that focus on the sciences, the arts, and technology. In science, we have a dedicated science lab, and teachers that are constantly looking for ways to help students learn through scientific processes and inquiry. In arts, we have programs focused on music, visual arts, drama, and creative movement. We offer year-long after school dance and chorus classes. Since 1999 Bailey's has been in partnership with the Kennedy Center as part of the Changing Education through the Arts Program (CETA). As a result of this partnership, our teachers seek innovative ways to integrate the arts throughout the curricula. In addition, our programs are supported by the latest technologies including one to one ratio of laptops for all students, document cameras, SMART Projectors, and iPads. Teachers and students use Google Apps, Myon, Wixie and Dreambox to support individualization of learning, home-school communication, blended learning models and Portrait of a Graduate Skills.
Bailey's Upper continues the Spanish Immersion Program for students entering through a lottery program offered at Bailey's ES for primary students. This dual-language program instructs children in math and science in Spanish, while language arts and social studies is taught in English each day. Our Spanish Immersion program helps English speakers gain a solid foundation in Spanish language and culture.
Bailey's Upper ES as well as our sister school Bailey's ES has strong PTA and community support. Our PTA offers after school programs to support enrichment in art, science, and physical education. We have a partnership with Arcadia Food and Sustainable Agriculture to enhance our students knowledge of gardening, sustainability and healthy food choices. Capital One and Big Brothers Big Sisters partners with us to offer select 4th graders mentors in the business world in the Beyond School Walls Program. Most recently, we have partnered with Northern Virginia Community College and Medical Care for Children Partnership to support our students in receiving dental care.
Our teachers and staff are an incredible group of thoughtful professionals who are always learning and growing as educators. Collaboration and planning for individual student needs has been our key in supporting increasing student achievement, social emotional development, and critical thinking in our students.
Mission Statement: Through teamwork we educate and empower our community with compassion and inclusivity. Diversity, innovation, culture, science, and the arts are the brick and mortar of our home. We teach!
