School Summary

Key Middle School is the center of the Lewis Pyramid in Region 3 which allows the school to be a major influence in the lives of students who transition from elementary, to middle, to high school in the pyramid. In taking full advantage of this opportunity, the faculty, staff, and community work together to establish clearly defined goals. Key Middle School is an authorized IB Middle Years Program school and partnered with Lewis High School to provide for our 7-10 IBMYP programming. The Lewis Pyramid enjoys a vertical articulation philosophy in meeting the needs of students as they transition through the three educational levels highlighted by a K-12 pyramid kickoff for our staffs at the start of each school year, and planning across schools each and every year. In addition, Key Middle School staff work collaboratively as a professional learning community to ensure that every student gets what they need to be successful. Data are used to inform instruction and to meet the high standards and expectations necessary for student achievement. Key Middle School is committed to providing a safe and secure environment where students are engaged in a challenging and enriching curriculum. One tremendous advantage for our students at Key is that we are a relatively small community of learners which allows staff to connect with students and families and build lasting relationships.

The school climate and culture at Key Middle School is built on mutual trust and respect for one another. Expectations for student behavior are high, student curiosity nurtured, and achievement across a variety of measures celebrated. Teachers, counselors, administrators, and other staff members maintain an atmosphere that is structured around the developmental needs of the middle school child. Students are expected to exhibit the three anchors of our Positive Behavior Support approach which are Readiness, Respect, and Responsibility, and our IB Learner Profile traits of Inquirer, Knowledgeable, Thinkers, Communicators, Risk-Takers, Principled, Caring, Open-minded, Balanced, and Reflective. Students are encouraged to work hard, make healthy choices, respect themselves and others, and reach out to lend a helping hand when needed. Students are further supported by our Student Services staff of counselors and specialists who work to ensure their social and emotional well-being as well.

Key Middle School is a diverse community of learners and is proud of its multi-cultural makeup. We celebrate our diverse student body by expanding our knowledge and understanding of one another through the recognition and commemoration of its varied cultures. Ultimately, Key staff strives to prepare its students academically, socially, and emotionally for high school and beyond and to be both productive and engaged citizens in their local and global communities as they become young adults.
