School SummaryWoodley Hills Elementary School is located near historic Mt. Vernon and has the honor of serving a diverse community of learners. The dedicated and caring faculty works closely with parents and community members to develop a safe and nurturing environment where children learn the skills needed for them to be successful and contributing members of the global society.
The Woodley Hills' staff is committed to providing a rigorous academic program and maintaining high expectations for all children. Teachers and specialists collaborate to analyze both formative and summative assessments to design appropriate lessons for the students. In addition, instructional practices that are respectful of individual learning styles allow teachers to meet the varied needs of our students. Our continual focus is to assist our students in mastering or exceeding FCPS as well Virginia academic expectations. The efforts are supported by a variety of before and after school enrichment activities and clubs.
The faculty and staff are also committed to serving the social and emotional needs of our students. We are dedicated to building character and developing moral reasoning in our children so they gain the skills necessary to become positive productive citizens. The students learn the importance of respect, caring, responsibility, hard work, trust, and family through character lessons that are integrated into the curriculum, and by participating in service learning projects and character assemblies.
The partnership that exists between the school, parents, guardians, and community members is essential to the success of our students. The Parent and Teacher Association supports activities such as our Back to School Picnic, International Festival and numerous after school programs as well as curriculum nights. The combined effort of all involved continues to make Woodley Hills ES the "School of Smiles!"
