School SummaryLorton Elementary School opened in September 2003. Located at the end of Lewis Chapel Road in historic Lorton, it is a state-of-the-art school designed to serve the students and the community. The facility has over 100,000 square feet of instructional space and presents a dynamic, multi-colored playground and multiple playing fields which are surrounded by a park.
An active PTA funds and supports cultural arts programs, family nights, extracurricular activities, a monthly newsletter, and direction for volunteer involvement. PTA activities are welcomed and important.
Lorton Station Elementary contains a variety of creative space options including a theater arts area, television production studio, a rock climbing wall, computer lab, and a library with extensive Internet access and on-line research resources. Technology is a critical, imbedded, learning tool in the school. Students and teachers have wired and wireless Internet access, multiple computers in each classroom, as well as access to wireless mobile laptop labs that travel to students providing network access for an entire classroom.
As a Professional Learning Community staff members, students, and the community collaborate to serve a diverse population which includes special education students, students for whom English is a new language, gifted and talented center students, and general education students. There is a strong commitment to learning and the development of citizenship skills needed for success.
