School SummaryLocated in a wooded Springfield neighborhood, Orange Hunt Elementary opened its doors in September of 1974. The school was renovated in 1998 and approximately 990 students are currently enrolled. In 1994, a partial German Immersion program was established at Orange Hunt. Approximately 300 children currently participate in this program in grades one through six. The partial German immersion program gives students the opportunity to gain a command of the German language while being taught math, science, and health during the regular school day. We also have German FLES in which all students that attend Orange Hunt have the opportunity to learn some German language and culture.
The Orange Hunt school community embraces the philosophy of building partnerships among the faculty, students, and families to create an enriching and academically rigorous learning environment which supports the success of all our children. In our efforts to address student needs as a whole child, we value the importance of social-emotional well-being. We have 4 basic areas we focus on which is Be Safe, Be Responsible, Be Respectful, and Be Kind. We also participate in conjunction with the non-profit organization called the Positivity Project known to us as P2. The Positivity Project highlights character traits and soft skills students need to be most successful in their future. Some examples are, perseverance, integrity, bravery, curiosity, and gratitude to name a few. “I can sum up positive psychology in just three words¿—¿Other People Matter. Period. Anything that builds relationships
between and among people is going to make you happy.” -Dr. Chris Peterson
Critical thinking and problem solving continue to be integral components of the core curriculum in all academic areas. We provide many enriching experiences which support the success of all students such as Art and Literacy Night, STEM Night, band, strings, chorus, student-produced daily news show, Geography Bee, Student Leadership Team, Patrols, and Peer Mediation. Technology integration is enhanced by interactive whiteboard technology (SMARTboard) in each classroom, numerous wireless mobile labs, and a fully connected production studio.
Orange Hunt is fortunate to have a community that greatly enhances the school environment through participating in special events, volunteering at the school, and supporting the school's programs and faculty/staff. We have wonderful events like Dance A Thon, Laternenfest, Fall Festival, Ice Skating and a variety Show to name a few. We try to have a blend of traditional school events with events that highlight the German culture. Likewise, a wide variety of after-school Engineering for Kids, Kinderchor, Chess club, Fencing, etc.) to enrich the learning experiences of our students.
Mission
As the Orange Hunt community, we commit to provide meaningful opportunities for our students to learn at the highest levels.
Vision
All students will be empowered to be independent problem solvers, critical and creative thinkers, and empathetic members of our community.
