School Summary

The environment at Silverbrook ES nurtures student learning by providing a variety of programs and opportunities to enable students to achieve at their highest levels. The focus is achievement and excellence in all academic areas. Strategies such as individual and small-group instruction, team teaching, and manipulative-based instruction are used each day. Silverbrook is a Professional Learning Community where all teacher teams collaborate on student achievement. We are an Advanced Academic School-Based Center, providing Level IV AAP services for students in grades 3-6. The school's math program is particularly strong. Eligible students in grades 3-6 participate in an advanced math curriculum and have proven to excel in this area. Math instruction for all is implemented through the use of the newly adopted online textbooks and enhanced through the numerous laptop carts.

Over the past several years Silverbrook Elementary has established additional programs to engage students in active learning and strengthen their core knowledge. These programs are in addition to the core curriculum. The strategies lab is a place where students play interactive creative learning games to employ their higher level thinking skills in a fun way. At least twice a month each class attends an hour long STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) Lab to examine and explore the world around them through teacher guided activities and experiments. For students who need extra support Silverbrook has an established Learning Lab providing academic interventions in reading and math in a small group setting. All students receive Spanish instruction twice a week through the FLES (Foreign Language in Elementary School) curriculum. The Spanish FLES classes help our students on the road to becoming global citizens and in preparation for foreign language at the secondary level. This program aids in preparing our students for foreign language at the secondary level and sets them on the path to becoming global citizens. Overall, Silverbrook is a community school that provides opportunities for students to progress and excel. We have high expectations for all and provide the resources that they need to reach their potential.
