School Summary

Shrevewood believes in excellence for all children. To that end, our efforts are focused on excellence for all. To achieve that, we set high expectations for our students framed in appropriate support, and ensure our teachers engage in professional development that will directly support teaching and learning. Our instruction is based on best practices as defined by FCPS and notable researchers in the field of education, the Virginia Standards of Learning, and Fairfax County Public Schools' Program of Studies Objectives. The tenets of Portrait of a Graduate (Communicator, Collaborator, Ethical and Global Citizen, Critical and Creative Thinker, Goal-Directed and Resilient Individual), are integrated with technology into all core subject areas so that our students develop skills in order to be successful in the workforce of the future.

We are a global school in every sense of the word, with approximately 40 home languages and cultures represented in our student body. We serve students from preschool (age 4) to grade 6. Our program includes special education, FECEP, Enhanced Autism, and Limited English Proficiency, and our students enjoy full music, physical education, and art programs, as well as Mandarin Chinese instruction in grades 1-6. Classroom celebrations and quarterly cultural arts performances are also experienced by our students.

Inclusion for special education and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) students, a Friday Friends program, and a mentoring program ensure that our children learn to interact with, value and respect the differences among us. Our Positive Behavioral Approach (PBA) program also promotes responsibility and citizenship, which is a global requirement among our diverse student body. We work to produce solid citizens who can indeed become positive, productive, and contributing world citizens. The rich diversity of our school provides our students with an excellent opportunity to learn in a setting that is reflective of the diverse world in which they will live and work.
