School SummaryHayfield Elementary School opened in 1967 on the Hayfield Farm portion of George Washington's Mount Vernon Estate. It serves more than seven hundred students in kindergarten through grade six and is a part of Hayfield Pyramid Schools. Fairfax County completed Hayfield's building renewal in 2003 providing the community with a beautiful 21st Century building.
Hayfield Elementary School's collaborative school community is inspired to help all students achieve in a physically and emotionally safe environment by fostering partnerships between parents, teachers, and students. Hayfield is a community school, supported by a strong Parent Teacher Association (PTA). The school enjoys active parent involvement in programs. Hayfield Elementary's PTA is instrumental in their support and is commended for enhancing instructional programming by offering programs to enrich the curriculum, securing tools that foster learning and sponsoring activities that promote school spirit. Students from nearby Hayfield Secondary School provide support as peer tutors, Teacher Cadets and volunteers. The Student Council Association (SCA), School Safety Patrol Program and the WHES Television News Show provide students with leadership and citizenship opportunities in their school and community. Hayfield Elementary is proud of its academic success, parental support, and programs that enrich, encourage, and enlighten its students.
