School SummaryHollin Meadows is a science and math focus school situated in a community that is rich in history, diversity and talent. We strive to be a school that provides equity and excellence in education for all children.
As a science and math focus school, we provide unique learning opportunities for both students and staff. All students have access to over 14,000 square feet of gardens throughout our campus including a Virginia Native Habitat, a Form & Texture Garden, a Literary Garden and an array of vegetable and flower beds. Our Outdoor Education coordinator facilitates lessons and gardening projects. Students also regularly visit the science lab where our Science Resource teacher leads lessons that support classroom instruction. Our Math Resource teachers provide embedded professional development to all teachers through coaching, data analysis, collaborating on lessons and leading trainings. The result is enriched instruction for all students.
At Hollin Meadows, we believe that the social curriculum is as important as the academic curriculum. Using the Responsive Classroom approach, students begin the day with a Morning Meeting which is a time for students to connect with each other, share, have fun and prepare for the academic tasks of the day. We respond to misbehavior with logical consequences and work to meet the developmental needs of each child. The home-school connection is critical to a child's success, and we begin that connection even before school starts with our Welcome Walk visit to student homes in August.
Our staff of dedicated teachers provides a rigorous academic program for all students. As a community of professional learners, the teachers at Hollin Meadows collaborate with one another to develop common assessments, analyze data and create follow-up instructional plans to meet the needs of each student. We are excited to work with an active PTA and larger community of supporters that help us bring events such as our Multi-Cultural Festival, a Fall Fun Day, and Earth Day Celebration. Whether you are a student, parent, staff member or community member, we look forward to a successful partnership.
