School SummaryLocated in the backyard of Mount Vernon, Washington Mill Elementary is equally proud of its past, present, and future. The land where George Washington once walked continues to serve as a farm, planting the seeds of a solid education for the students of Washington Mill. Washington Mill enjoys rich diversity in its population. Diversity is a strength that adds to a multicultural educational program.
The staff of Washington Mill embraces a spirit of collaboration and reflection. Teams meet together twice a week in their Collaborative Learning Teams (CLTs) to discuss instruction and data to drive and impact instructional decisions. We believe that working together, reflecting and refining is what betters us as educators and ultimately leads to student success.
At Washington Mill we embody a student-centered focus school. From the moment you walk into our school you will see individual student photos posted throughout the entire school. We believe in a community of belonging, and students and parents feel that sense when they walk in the building. In the classrooms students are instructed in small, differentiated groups, in an effort to tailor instruction to student needs and to create critical and creative thinking skills across all content areas.
Through the work of an excellent PTA, Washington Mill is able to better help students. The PTA sponsors many after-school programs and exciting fine arts programs. Family and community programs are sponsored by the PTA throughout the year.
Just as it was during the time of George Washington, Washington Mill is an exciting place to be.
