School SummaryLocated in Chantilly, Virginia, Rocky Run Middle School opened in 1980. In keeping with the middle school philosophy, Rocky Run is organized around eight instructional teams of approximately 145 students. The team approach creates a smaller learning environment that allows our staff to really get to know our students. Each team delivers a quality instructional program designed to appropriately challenge all learners. At Rocky Run, parents and staff work together to give students the time, support, and encouragement they need to achieve.
Rocky Run Middle School's strong academic program is complimented by enriching co-curricular activities. The middle school years provide students with the first real opportunity to engage in elective exploratory study and to participate in the performing arts. Our award-winning music program provides instrumental (band and orchestra) and choral instruction for over fifty percent of our students. Rocky Run offers introductory and high school-level courses in French, Spanish, and Latin. In addition, courses are offered in computer science, industrial technology, family studies, art, and drama.
Best practice research on effective middle school programs indicates that students who are active in the life of their school, through participation in after school activities, achieve at higher levels across the curriculum. Rocky Run provides students an expansive after-school program five days per week. The after school program includes over 40 offerings ranging from the Model United Nations, Odyssey of the Mind, Math Counts, and Science Olympiad, to various sports and clubs.
Rocky Run Middle School is committed to helping all students achieve their full academic potential in an environment where students are encouraged to explore and discover talents and interests that may serve them a lifetime. The tradition continues.
