School SummarySchool Summary
Our school vision at Greenbriar East Elementary (GBE) is Growing, Belonging, and Embracing Diversity. Our mission is to create a safe, caring, nurturing and excellent academic environment to support students in achieving their full potential while inspiring lifelong learning. GBE identifies each student by name and by need through a multi-tiered system of support in the areas of academics, wellness, and behavior. Our school vision and mission drive our dedication for student success.
GBE affirms its beliefs by committing to create a community of learners by fostering a challenging, inclusive educational program incorporating technology skills while embodying an integrated curriculum to meet the individual and collective needs of all children. Our school programs reflect collaborative planning, assessment, and intervention to monitor student achievement and celebrate progress. We empower our students through student choice and student voice to demonstrate their learning.
At GBE we:
Grow individually and as a learning community
Belong to a learning community that prompts individuality
Embrace diversity and celebrate individuals
GBE's staff members are dedicated learners, actively participating in local, state, and national conferences, participating in on-site technology training and other in-services to stay on the cutting edge of educational and instructional research. Our staff collaborates regularly to plan, assess, and intervene for students as a professional learning community.
GBE focuses on exemplary academic achievement, character education, and builds the FCPS Portrait of Graduate skills of communicating, collaborating, critical and creative thinking, ethical and global citizenship, and goal-directed and resilient individuals. Our students grow their skills through many programs in our building. Our Young Scholars Program develops the talent of historically underrepresented populations by providing opportunities for access and support for success in K-12 advanced coursework. Our STEAM Lab is a space for students to explore their skills in an integrated learning environment. Sixth grade students produce and lead our morning new show. Our Student Council Association (SCA) and Patrols also build the leadership skills of our students. We’ve expanded access to advanced academics through our Local Level IV Program during the 2021-2022 school year starting in third grade. By the 2024-2025 school year, our Local Level IV program will be in grades three through six.
GBE's active PTA supports the vision and mission of the school and provides opportunities for families to become involved in their children’s education. Volunteers from the school community are visible in classrooms and workrooms throughout the school day. The PTA sponsors numerous activities and events such as cultural arts presentations, dances, fundraising activities, the Fun Run, Fun Fair, book fairs, and other events to bring the families of GBE together. Families can also build connections with our school by partnering with our school family liaison and social worker. We have a Family Resource Center in our building to support any needs of our families. The cooperative effort of the school-home partnership creates a place where students grow and learn in a caring community.
