School SummaryFloris Elementary School provides a safe and supportive environment that encourages students to strive to reach their full potential. All students learn the value of teamwork through cooperative learning activities. Teamwork, individual effort, positive attitude and respect are all part of day to day life at Floris.
As a professional learning community, Floris educators collaborate to provide an inclusive, challenging instructional program to support all students with the core curriculum of Virginia and Fairfax County Public Schools. Floris is also a Responsive Classroom school where each teacher uses specific, daily practices to build community and kindness in their classrooms. A cooperative spirit and strong communication between home and school are key factors in creating this positive environment.
Floris students use technology throughout the school day. Critical and creative thinking and problem solving are integral parts of our core curriculum. Floris is especially proud of its STEAM Lab, which allows all students in kindergarten through grade six to work actively and creatively with a variety of media. Our parents volunteer on a daily basis in order to provide students with additional support in learning.
The faculty participates in on-going staff development to share expertise and incorporate research-based instructional practices. We are very proud of our outstanding music, art, guidance, and physical education programs as well as an array of culturally rich learning opportunities through field trips, guest presenters, assemblies and special events. Our supportive PTA makes many of our special events, assemblies and after school programs possible.
Floris' faculty and staff members use many sources of information to assess the ongoing learning of their students. Together, we ensure that all students have the opportunity to strive toward their fullest potential in a stimulating community of learners.
