School Summary

Hutchison Elementary School was founded in 1975 to be the center of the community. All members of the school community are committed to providing a safe and nurturing environment in which the joy of learning is experienced by everyone.

Hutchison has a rich multicultural student population that includes children from more than 28 countries. Our inclusive model addresses a commitment to ensuring that all children will reach the full potential of their capabilities. All teachers and staff members share responsibility for the academic, social, and emotional growth of all students.

Throughout the history of the school "every child can and every child will" has permeated all decision-making. In response to the challenge of SOLs, all resources collaborate for maximum support for each child. Classroom teachers, reading teachers, SOL teachers, ESOL teachers, the Title I teacher, special educators, counselors, the parent liaison, administrators, instructional assistants, and community members each play a significant role in supporting an overall plan for success. Teamwork within and between teams creates continuity and consistency of program delivery.

Staff members serve not only the child but the child's family as well. Extensive outreach programs identify needs in the community and respond to those needs providing whatever assistance is required. These programs distribute food, clothing, and holiday gifts and food baskets to families throughout the year.

The school's partnerships are active and child-centered. Students are mentored and tutored by volunteers from the National Imaging and Mapping Agency. Forestville Elementary School's SCA conducts a coat and holiday gift drive that ensures warmth and joy for children each winter. Floris United Methodist Church provides clothing and lunches for students and has coordinated evening ESOL classes for parents. Outback restaurant donates dinners to raise outreach funds and for the sixth grade celebration in the spring. Every member of the Hutchison family is significant and valued as they strive for excellence.
