Sangster Elementary is located in Springfield, Virginia approximately 20 miles southwest of the nation's capital. Students come to school ready, willing and eager to learn. Sangster has received the State of Virginia Board of Education Excellence Award for several years. We are proud of our children's success. Sangster's standardized test scores are among the best in the county and the state. We are fully accredited by the State of Virginia.

Sangster celebrates children both as individuals and as a group. Students come to school every day with an excitement and a joy about learning. The world of an elementary school is filled with discovery, exploration, excitement and engaging hands-on learning. Each child is valued and accepted by a staff that provides learning experiences, which develop, enrich, and extend the curriculum so that the instructional needs of every child can be met. Opportunities for students to develop ownership and pride in their school environment are provided so students have experiences that will prepare them to contribute to a democratic society.

Students learn in a safe, caring, and positive learning environment that stimulates intellectual curiosity, fosters a commitment to lifelong learning, strives for excellence in academic achievement, and promotes strong character development. The goal of Sangster Elementary is to educate the whole child and help students prepare to become productive, contributing citizens. We believe in the shared partnership of the school, parents, and community in achieving this goal.

Sangster's dedicated faculty is committed to implementing the concept of Professional Learning Community with an emphasis on establishing a collaborative teaching culture within the faculty. Teachers work closely in grade-level teams with specialists to explore best-practices for maximizing student achievement. Sangster is recognized as a National Model PLC school.

An active PTA continues to support the instructional program by offering cultural enrichment programs and volunteer services for our school community. The ideal combination of devoted parents, a supportive PTA, and talented and dedicated educational staff members gives students multiple opportunities for success at Sangster.
