School Summary

Laurel Hill Elementary School opened in September 2009 to support the growing community of Lorton, Virginia. Located across the street from South County High School, it serves over 900 students in the South County pyramid of Cluster V.

Our mission is to engage and challenge all of our students to become critical thinkers and responsible citizens. We build collaborative and respectful relationships with students, colleagues, and families; use best practices to ensure optimal student learning; and refine our teaching and learning through teamwork and professional development. Our school motto is "We love the journey of life-long learning," and we live these words every day as we all - students and staff members alike - work together and learn from each other.

At Laurel Hill, we believe that each child is important and entitled to the opportunity to realize his or her fullest potential. We believe that effective teachers are essential to student success and that learning occurs best when instruction is tailored to individual needs. We believe that adults and children thrive in a vibrant, safe, enriching, and respectful environment and work hard to create and maintain such an environment. We also believe that a dynamic partnership among students, parents, teachers, staff members, and the community is critical to exceptional student achievement. Our strong and supportive Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) and the regular involvement of our parent and community volunteers continues to build and strengthen this critical partnership.

Our mascot is the lion, and at Laurel Hill we roar with pride!
