School Summary

Langston Hughes Middle School, named for a great African American poet and orator, is dedicated to student achievement and accountability as its first priority. The principles and practices of the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program (IBMYP) guide student-centered, experiential performance tasks in the classroom. Students learn not only content of their 7 subjects, but also the skills necessary to be independent learners, communicators and thinkers.

The school culture is built on the beliefs that each student belongs here, the staff members believe they can be successful and that we are here to help them do just that. There are a full range of Special Education services available for students with disabilities consistent with the recommendations of individualized education program teams. In addition the school houses a center-based and local Level 4 Advanced Academic Program, classes for English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), and a foreign language curriculum in both 7th and 8th grade.

Recognizing the multifaceted needs of emerging adolescents, co-curricular activities in the After School Program continue to encourage academic promise through a variety of clubs, sports and academic supports. Throughout the day, the learning opportunities at Langston Hughes is preparing students to be global citizens and successful scholars.
