School Summary

Cub Run Elementary School opened its doors over 30 years ago in September 1986. As a professional learning community, Cub Run provides an inclusive, challenging instructional program to support all students with the core curriculum of Virginia and Fairfax County Public Schools. Working together, we create a motivating learning environment that fosters strong academic achievement within a respectful, responsible and kind school climate.

Through the years, Cub Run has provided many experiences for students which are designed to stimulate interest and hook kids in the excitement of learning and the thrill of accomplishment well earned through hard work. Toward this end, we provide students with a variety of learning opportunities to inspire and empower students to meet high academic standards, lead healthy, ethical lives, and be responsible and innovative global citizens.

The framework around which we build our program is called Positive Behavior Approach (PBA). This framework has all members of the Cub Run Community focusing their energies through the lens of 'respect, responsibility and kindness'. Cub Run staff also has a deep commitment to Responsive Classroom and The Positivity Project which the students and staff reach many of the goals of PBA. Responsive Classroom is an evidenced based approach to teaching that focusses on engagement of academics, positive community, effective management, and developmental awareness. The Positivity Project empowers students to build positive relationships and to recognize character strengths in themselves and others.

Cub Run is fortunate to have a pool of active parent volunteers at Cub Run. Parents provide many services to the school for which we are extremely grateful. A parent's involvement in any and all school activities sends a strong, positive message to children that parents place a high value on education. When school is important to the parent, it is almost always important to the child.

Cub Run's teachers and staff members use many sources of information to assess the ongoing learning of their students. Together, we ensure that all students have the opportunity to strive toward their fullest potential in an exciting community of learning.
