School Summary

Dranesville Elementary is coveted for being a community that CARES. The mission that drives every action and interaction is grounded in Connection, Access, Relationships, Excellence, and Stakeholder Engagement. We strive to foster an inclusive learning community that honors the neurodiversity of members of our school community and prioritize care for ourselves, each other, and the world.

As a result of our exceptional collaborative work, Dranesville was recognized for the 2023 Virginia Board of Education Continuous Improvement Exemplar Award. Excellence, equity, and opportunities for students that are aligned with the FCPS Strategic Plan are at the core of teaching and learning at Dranesville.

Dranesville Elementary School was an inaugural member of the FCPS/GMU School Innovation and Improvement Network Improvement Community in 2019 and continues to utilize improvement science to elevate excellence for all students. The intentional focus on continuous improvement at the core of our work aligns with the FCPS Strategic Plan.

Our measurable outcomes establish a solid foundation of excellence for all learners by focusing on reading, math, and attendance.  Our instructional staff cares for every student by providing equitable access to engaging instruction at or above grade level while nurturing Portrait of Graduate skills to successfully prepare students to navigate their future paths.

Dranesville serves 612 students in preschool through sixth grade. Our rich instructional programming includes weekly K-3 Counseling lessons, K-6 Spanish, K-6 STEAM Lab, ECCB, PAC, EAC, K-6 Advanced Academics, Young Scholars, and Local Level 4.  Each class and program integrates Portrait of a Graduate to support students in developing critical and creative thinking skills, meeting high academic standards, and achieving their highest potential.

Community partnerships are critical in our work of caring for our students. Partnerships with families and our community provide students enrichment opportunities during and beyond the school day.  Social and emotional wellness is nurtured through MentorWorks mentor/mentee connections. Northwest Federal Credit Union employees have served as mentors for students at Dranesville since 2003.  Connected in partnership through Educate Fairfax, Bechtel Corporation donates school supplies throughout the school year to support students¿ learning.

The wellness and diverse interests of our students are nurtured through robust enrichment programming sponsored by our PTA. Enrichment offerings include Dragon Runners, Therapeutic Arts, Theater, Lego Club, Chess, and Soccer.
